Description

In the 1700’s brewer Ralph Harwood in London came up with a beer that mimicked the flavor of a blended beer that was popular at the time.  The hard working London porters favored this beer and it soon became known as Porter beer.  Our Porter is a dark, full bodied ale showing more roasted character than brown ales, but less than stouts. As with the British style beers, bitterness is nicely balanced against malt flavor and sweetness. Chuckanut Stout carries the roasted malt flavor with grace and ease and has a clean and very smooth finish.

Food Pairing

Chuckanut Porter is very versatile with food.  Scallops are a great match for porter with its caramelized sugars and natural sweetness of the scallops echoing the flavor of the porter. Plenty of roast in the porter is picked up from the char flavor of grilling, whether it’s vegetables or meats they all team up fabulously with Chuckanut Porter.  Meatloaf is perfect with porter, and at lunchtime nothing is better than a meatloaf sandwich and a porter.  With desserts, especially those made with chocolate, porter can really shine!
