NEW BEERS FOR LATE SUMMER

With summer weather in full strength there's lots of options to quench your thirst! Lydnen Lager, a very popular Leichtbier style lager made for local beer pub Overflow Taps is coming back. We ripped through what we made a season ago and not everyone got to taste it. Watch for it this time and try a delicious lightweight blonde easy drinking lager. Nutburger Pilsner is our challenge to the Bitburger brewers and the Bitburger Challenge at Prost, Portland. A very traditional German Style Pilsner you'll want to taste this pure lager with a huge German influence. Using some of our favorite German Hersbrucker and Tettang Tettanger hops this is a floral pilsner with a sensitive bitter finish and creamy white head. Also up in August is the start of our Fest Bier 2019. Everyone enjoys this blonde, balanced, quaffable lager and we will have it on tap before our Oktoberfest on September 14. Nut to the Future, the winning Beer Prom German Common (like a CA Common with German ingredients) made with our prom date Future Primitive from Seattle, will be tapped soon. Chuckanut Scarlet Ale, formerly known as Ruby Ale, is a British style red ale that's malty and fruity with a balanced hop finish. We hope you like this Chuckanut seasonal fall ale.

OKTOBERFEST IS COMING, GET READY

Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen in Bellingham (North Nut) will hold it's annual traditional Oktoberfest on September 14. This year the fun will happen between 1 and 10 pm. There will be lots of beer garden games, face painters for kids and adults, music including live German Oompahpah music with Sylvia and German style fest contests. Make sure to get ready for the costume contest (you will want to wear your dirndls and lederhosen), get your arm muscles in shape for the liter mug holding contest, exercise your vocal chords for the yodeling contest and don't forget to work on your eye hand coordination for the Hammerschlagen contest. Even though the Kitchen’s regular menu will not be available the bratwurst, sauerkraut and beer mustard, German pretzels, pickled eggs and more will be there along with Chuckanut's award winning biers! Put this Oktoberfest in your calendar, you won’t want to miss this special fall celebration ($2 admission, kids 10 and under free)!

IN THE KITCHEN IN AUGUST

We think the summer weather is here to stay so we have our Mediterranean Melon salad on the menu with fresh watermelon, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, mint, feta, citrus vinaigrette on mixed greens. Southwest Hatch Chili & Corn Soup with its fire roasted hatch chilies, roasted fresh corn, tomatillos, cumin, lime, cilantro, cotija, served with tortilla chips will keep you fortified before heading out on your camping or hiking or boating trips for sure. Have you had the special brownie dessert we have on the menu? It's a killer! And there's always perfect beers to match whatever food you fancy, ask our servers for suggestions.

AROUND THE SOUND AND BEYOND WITH CHUCKANUT

This is the height of summer and Chuckanut is at lots of events in August. As usual we'll be sampling our beers at the Brewfest on the Skagit in Mt Vernon supporting the historic Lincoln Theater on August 10. We'll be heading down to Portland, OR for a string of events starting with a collaboration brew with our friends at Breakside Brewing on Friday August 16 at their Slabtown location. Then we head over to Saraveza 5:30-8 pm for a brewers night. Our Pilsner was invited to be part of the Bitburger Challenge at the Prost restaurants where it will be in a blind tasting with 3 other WA pilsners and 4 OR pilsners starting August 16 and ending at noon at the 18th. On Saturday we'll have a Chuckanut Brewers meet at Belmont Station noon to 3 pm then hang around to find out the winners of the challenge at Prost on Sunday at 3 pm. If you down in Portland make sure to stop by and say hi! Don't forget to catch some Chuckanut at Ex Novo Brewing's Lagerhosen August 24, Portland and the blind tasting at Brave Horse, Seattle on August 21.
