CELEBRATE 10 YEARS in 10 DAYS at CHUCKANUT

---

It's hard to believe but 10 years ago in July Chuckanut Brewery quietly opened it's doors and began selling great European Style Ales & Lagers and locally inspired food in Bellingham. Then, as we all experienced, in September, we were hit by the biggest financial crises since the depression! To stay alive we began delivering Chuckanut to accounts in Seattle where our name was well known for quality beer. And Seattle couldn't get enough of Chuckanut. Two years later we signed on with a distributor in Seattle and our local Dickerson Distributing to take our beers south. Since that time we slowly grew but remained at capacity for about 5 years. Our Bellingham brewery just didn't have enough space for us to make more beer so about three years ago the Port of Skagit convinced us they could help by offering us a piece of property where we could continue to expand if needed. With the WSU Bread Lab, the Skagit Valley College Brew Program and the Skagit Valley Malting Company along with farmers that were excited to have us join in the agriculture related activities, we built South Nut. It's been about one and half years since opening our production facility and we continue to expand our market currently going as far south as Portland, OR where they love Chuckanut! And here we are ten years since first opening our doors still alive and making some of the best European Style Ales and Lagers and locally sourced food around. Life is good and we thank you for loving Chuckanut! Please join us in our 10 Years in 10 Days of Chuckanut as we celebrate both North and South our 10th Year Anniversary. The calendar below lists all the activities we'll be enjoying from Friday the 13th of July til July 22nd!

CHUCKANUT  WINS AT WA BEER AWARDS

Chuckanut did it again! Out of almost 1,300 beers in the competition Chuckanut won a total of six awards. Chuckanut Marzen Lager and Vienna Lager each won Gold medals; Chuckanut Pilsner received a Silver medal; and Chuckanut Mexican Style Lager, Doppelbock and Dunkel Lager all received Bronze medals. Last year Chuckanut received an unprecedented eight medals to win Large Brewery of the Year 2017. This year there were 117 out of 181 breweries awarded medals in 74 categories. The next big competition coming up is the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) in Denver September 20-23.

CHUCKANUT AT FESTIVALS

Summer is here and we are in full festival swing! This July besides our own 10 years in 10 days 10th year anniversary celebration we'll be out in the community showing up at some fun festivals. July 21 we'll be at the Phinney Neighborhood Summer Beer Taste in Seattle. We have always been at the winter taste but this is our first time at the summer tasting, should be a good one. Years ago our Pilsner was taken to northern Italy for the Pils & Love Fest but this year  Firestone Walker's Propagator will be hosting the fest in the US. If you want to go to a super festival where the beers that are pouring are largely Pilsners make it down to Marina del Rey (near Venice Beach) in CA and join us on July 28. This should be a fest to remember! Don't forget Brewers by the Bay on July 29 in Bellingham at the Farmer's Market will be happening once more. Always a fun local gathering where the music, beer and food are great!

BEERS FOR JULY

Our ChuckaReuben Ale will be tapped soon, this is the collaboration beer we made for the Beer Prom June 30 and it will be at our North and South Nut soon. It will also be down at Reuben's in Ballard and a few accounts around the sound. This golden ale uses some new varietal hops to lend it a fruity aroma (Lemondrop, Cashmere and Lorel) and honey malt to add a bit of sweetness. The beer everyone has been asking for since we opened will be tapped on July 13 for our 10th anniversary event. We are calling it the Wilis (Will our brewmaster's full name) Helles Lager. This is the current rendition of the famous Thomas Kemper Helles sometimes known as the blueberry beer. It's not blueberries in the beer but the yeast that's used that gives it the blueberry like flavors. It will be available in limited quantities so if you've been thinking of this beer that was famous in 1986 from the Thomas Kemper Brewery on Bainbridge and Poulsbo, WA make sure to get a pint and remember the good ole days!
