OKTOBERFEST TIME IS HERE

Yes, it's Oktoberfest time and to celebrate we tapped our Fest Bier September 1. As usual we'll be open all Labor Day Weekend enjoying the last dog days of summer and drinking this golden, refreshing, Dortmunder style lager at both North and South Nut. And to make it even more exciting we have come up with a collaboration with the Bottleshop Collective (a group of bottleshops around Puget Sound including our neighbor Elizabeth Station in Bellingham) called Old Fest. Our Old Fest is the old traditonal Marzen style Oktoberfest that used to be the Fest bier in Munich before they moved to making the golden style. Old Fest will be tapped September 15 at the Bottleshop Collective sites around the Sound including our own Skagit and Bellingham breweries. Please make note we will not have our much loved Oktoberfest event this year as we will be in Germany sourcing supplies at Drink Tec in Munich. But make sure to remember to celebrate with us next year in 2018.

SOUTH NUT TAP ROOM IS ONE YEAR OLD

One year ago on September 1 we quietly opened our South Nut Tap Room. Since then we have made lots of friends both near and far and are getting to know some real regulars. Who knew there were so many great beer lovers out in the middle of the barley fields of Skagit! And our Innovation Zone Port of Skagit has grown to include not only Chuckanut, WSU Bread Lab, Skagit Valley College Brew Program (Cardinal Brewing), Flyers Brewpub and Skagit Valley Malting but the King Arthur Baking School, Cairnsprings Flour Mill and others in the works. The idea of a hub of innovation for agriculture related products has really taken hold and we can't imagine how many more of us there will be on our second anniversary!

SEPTEMBER IS EAT LOCAL MONTH

It's Eat Local Month and all of Bellingham is celebrating. There will be contest, a special passport and more. Check out Sustainable Connections for more information about what's going on but Chuckanut is highlighting lots of our local producers and their great products to make some special meals for you in September. Our locals pizza highlights WA apples in combination with our own roast pork and pickled red onions. The corn and smoked salmon chowder (non dairy) sources corn from Mariposa Farm, Baleans Salmon and we use tomatillos as the thickener. And don't forget to try something from our Specials Menu including the salmon special from Lummi Island Salmon.

CHUCKANUT AT FESTIVALS AROUND THE SOUND

Festival season is picking up again with all the Oktoberfest celebrations and early fall festivals. September 16 we will be at both the first Punk in Drublic Fest in Tacoma and the Port of Skagit's Aviation Day (Big Stick BBQ at South Nut all day). Oktoberfest with Chuckanut beer include Sept 16 at Frolic in Seattle, Sept 23 at Bellingham's Kulshan Brewery, Sept 28 at Microsoft's campus and Sept 29 at Teku Tavern bottleshop in Seattle. We'll also be at the first Sedro Woolley Beer Fest on September 23 and at Seafeast a Celebration of the Bellingham Waterfront Sept 22-23.

LAST CLASSICAL ON TAP & SEAFEAST' POETRY SLAM

If you've missed Classical on Tap this is your last chance to enjoy it in Chuckanut's North Nut back covered patio at 7pm on September 27. We won't have another Classical on Tap until April 2018 during Bellingham Beer Week. We'll also have the Seafeast Poetry Slam in our back covered patio September 22 at 7 pm as part of the Seafeast weekend event. This was a super popular performance last year so make sure to get here early to find your seats.
